Bridge Learners

For non-native speakers who are considered "high intermediate English speakers" (student performance level 5 of the Basic English Skills Test), BoulderReads! not only provides a literacy volunteer but also enrolls those students in a Ventures Group for additional support in improving their English. This group amounts to about 5% of our total population.

Non-native speakers who come through our intake process but are deemed to be below the "high intermediate level" in English are not accepted into BoulderReads! for a literacy tutor. Instead, they are referred to English Language Acquisition programs, including the Boulder Public Library's English Conversation Groups, Your English School, Doorways, Intercambio, Boulder Valley Family Literacy Program, and the University of Colorado's International English Center.

Non-native speakers who come through our intake process and are deemed higher than "high intermediate level" in English are given a BoulderReads! literacy tutor.
